  1. Show: Word Art Collective

Some of my video and photography-based typographic work will be shown by the Word Art Collective at the Hoxton Arches from Wednesday 21st November to Saturday 8th December 2012.

The Word Art Collective is a non-profit initiative established by a group of curators and writers based in London, generously supported by the European Commission and partner gallery Hoxton Arches.

The show is curated as an exhibition of art and design by artists whose work explores the theme of European identity, taking as its base an interest in language.

The exhibition is to be held at Hoxton Arches, Arch 402, on the edge of Shoreditch.

  2. Emerge

I was also part of the 2010 edition of the Emerge show during London Design Week.
During the opening, guests were invited to pose as human letterforms/numbers
and were given a polaroid of their mini-performance (instant typography deserves
    instant photography, doesn’t it?).

  3. In vino veritas

In vino veritas (wine reveals the truth) is a plain white tablecloth that only reveals its damask pattern
as wine is spilled on it. (Perfect for clumsy guests!)

This is part of a research on ephemeral stencils, looking into “programming” a shape or word to appear, evolve and disappear according to changesin its environment. Traditionally, damasks were woven in a single colour, with a glossy warp-faced satin pattern against a duller ground, causing the thread to reflect the light differently according to the position of the observer. I liked the idea of a pattern that would only be revealed under certain circumstances, just as truth and secrets would.

The tannin can be fixated by washing the tablecloth in cold water with 1kg of salt instead of laundry powder, although this may cause the color to change accordingly to the wine used. (See below)

In vino veritas tableclothes will be shown and sold during the Milan Furniture Fair, in the Foodmarketo pop-up shop/gallery. FoodMarketo is a joint project by Apartamento magazine and DesignMarketo.
Where: Milan, Via Masera in front of n.10
    at the Kaleidoscope space.
    When: 13-18 April 2010

    Strip the world bare
Peer through the layers of fuss
    Forget the frivolous
    Indulge in austerity

30 Graphic designers from the Masters course at the London College of Communication investigate the bare basics of design through the exploration of circles, squares and triangles in a pop-up gallery of Carnaby Street. They will be showcasing personal interpretations of the concept Back to Basics.

An array of works ranging from prints, posters, books, t-shirts and photographic prints will be displayed. Christmas shoppers will be able to browse limited edition design and pick up something special for under £20.
